New China

Watching the video made my view changes on China because before I thought that all of China was becoming more modern in the culture and some industries. But watching the film made me realize that many farmers, which before I knew had not become more modern in industry, but it shocked me that they had not become more modern in their culture. Becoming more modern in culture involves not having arranged marriages. That idea of a modern culture were mostly found in the cities. Another view that changed was that of the job of women in China. I thought that before they were lower and mostly stayed at home. But watching I realized that many women were in high positions, but I also realized that these women were the ones that had money to get a good education. The women who had a factory job or no job were the ones who grew up on the farms.

What kind of jobs the women hold is just one the differences between social classes in China. Another way that the classes are different is their expectations of life. The higher class, the ones who live in the city, wants a lot of things and works to obtain them. While the lower class, ones who live in the rural area, wants the things easy to obtain and basic necessities. The people in the city life live a more westernized life while people in the rural area live a more traditional life.

Two stories really hit me in watching the movie. The story of the migrant worker, Wei Zhanyan, who went back on her word of being in an arranged marriage, and married another man for real love. I found this story interesting because it reminded me of a movie which was made it more romantic. The other story that I found interesting was the story of Yang Haiyan the women who was trying to find her mother. This story also seemed like a movie which makes it seem very happy, even though it wasn't because her mother did not come back home with her.
